This is how I got to reading on my father’s wing; It was our April read for our book club. I was hesitant to read it because I just wasn’t sure about it.
I decided to read it last minute because a review was coming up and I needed something to keep me busy that weekend – a book review seemed like a good plan.
So, I bought the book at Elite Bookshop at 50k, which I complained about a lot. I thought it was too expensive for a 190-page book (I still think it is expensive). Considering that I was sceptical about it from the beginning.
And then I started reading it. Boy, was I wrong! I couldn’t put this book down. The book starts with a scene at the football grounds where they were playing and he explained how he felt like something wasn’t right because of how badly he was playing. He was making a lot of mistakes than usual. And this is where I realised I’m going to love the book. Because how many times do we get that feeling that something somewhere is not right based on how we perform certain tasks?
This is a book about business, entrepreneurship and hard work. A book about family. Love. A book about trying. Failing. Falling. Standing up. Slowing down. Pushing the norms. A book about possibilities.
It is a book about a life well lived. It is a legacy worth celebrating.
This book was such a comfort read. It reminded me of my home when I was still young. You see we have coffee farms with banana trees at home and him speaking about his father’s coffee farms at their home made me feel so nostalgic.
I’m so grateful that he wrote this book before his time to leave came. May he rest in peace.
