On reading my old writing

Last night, I was looking at my LinkedIn page and stumbled upon some of my old writing. I used to have a blog called dailylifetalk.com. I closed it down years ago, but some of my pieces still live here. Rereading them felt like opening an old notebook, one filled with the kind of honesty that…

While I Sip My Coffee: Look for the Flowers

There’s something beautiful about slowing down enough to notice what’s around you. When you do, you begin to see how much joy exists in the in-between. Most of the time, we are too busy to notice. Living with Cancer by Prof. Mark Mwandosya

Last week, Tanzania’s medical community witnessed a historic moment, not the unveiling of a groundbreaking drug, but the launch of a profoundly human story. Living with Cancer, written by Prof. Mark Mwandosya, published by Mkuki na Nyota, is not just a memoir; it is a personal diary of his battle with cancer since 2011, when…

Theft by Abdulrazak Gurnah Quotes

Theft is my second read from Abdulrazak Gurnah, the 2021 Nobel Prize in Literature winner. My first was Paradise, which I enjoyed, especially for its poetic language. I’ve come to learn that Gurnah’s writing is a slow burn. It’s for readers who don’t mind taking their time, knowing that the final pages will tie everything…

I think what unsettled me most about The Stranger I think what unsettled me most about The Stranger is how little Meursault performs for others.

He does not pretend to feel what he does not feel. He does not say things simply because they are expected.

And somehow, that honesty becomes disturbing to everyone around him.

Perhaps we are more attached to how things should look than we realise. To the right words, the right emotions, the right reactions.

We learn them. We repeat them. And over time, they begin to feel like truth.

And sometimes, we don’t question it.

Also, see a lineup of books I am reading and loving. Between Friends and Lovers has my whole heart ❤️ (review coming soon)
