So, I finished this book just a few days ago. I enjoyed every bit of it. I love Brenè’s approach to storytelling and research.
They blend so well.
I love the story she shared about her and her husband. You see, so many times, we make up stories about ourselves and others that are not true. Speaking up and being open is one way to make things right.
I make stories about myself and others so many times, and most of the time, these stories are not real. So lesson learned.
I liked how she explains the process of rising from our falls:
The Reckoning
It is the part where you realize you are feeling something. You identify your emotions. You get curious.
The Rumble
Here is where the work is. You get real with yourself. You call yourself on the stories you have been making up about yourself. She says in this part, you tell yourself nothing but the truth, the whole of it.
The Revolution
It is where you own your truth. Accept it. Learn from your mistakes and start transforming yourself by taking action to change.
Key lessons:
1. Shame derives its power from being unspeakable.
2. To reignite creativity, innovation, and learning, we must rehumanize education and work.
3. We are hardwired for connection. It is what gives purpose & meaning to our lives.
My favourite quote
All I know is that my life is better when I assume people are doing their best. It keeps me out of judgment and lets me focus on what is and not what should or could be.
This quote is my favourite because it has been helping me to be less judgmental of people, especially people close to me. Since I started practising this, my life is becoming easier and happier.
Do I recommend it?
Yes. I recommend. It is a good read. It will help you so much to improve your life and your relationships. This book is about showing up even when it hurts!

Until next time,
